HMP Drawings

In this series of drawings, I use the digital photographic archives of Google as a source image to engage with how photography and visuality are embedded in the discourse of criminalization and imprisonment. Exploring the addresses of various prisons around the UK through Google Street View, I expose the power of the institution to erase individuals and control the perception of incarcerated communities. Using both a representational and conceptual approach, the work operates as an avenue to critical engagement and dialogue with the systems and structures around us.
